Our RV
We currently are traveling in our Bürstner Elegance 685 from 2004.
We gave him the name, “Moosie”
Meet our RV
After changing RV’s three times you can now find us on the road driving a Bürstner Elegance 685. You can read more about our previous RVs on the Our Story page.
Reading stories of other people about RV’s it seems that it always takes a few different RV’s before finding “the one”. We believe we have found it! (famous words, let us see what the future holds)
We knew we wanted something bigger. Even though we are only with two people (and our dog, Lucky) we wanted a bit more space. Measuring 6.85m (or 22ft), this RV gives us all the space we need.
The RV is built in 2004 and is based on a Fiat Ducato with an ALKO chassis. It has a 2.8 JTD engine with around 50.000km (31,000 miles) on the clock but knowing us, this number will get higher soon.
The RV has a very open layout, it has a “French” bed in the back with the bathroom and shower next to it.
In the middle is an L-shaped kitchen and on the other side, you can find a big fridge/freezer with an oven on top.
Moving a bit more forward there is a sitting area with a couch on the side.
Both the driving seat and the passenger seat can easily turn around. On the top of these chairs is a drop-down bed that easily fits two people. This way 4 people can comfortably live and sleep in the RV.
The RV has a double bottom system making the floor a lot warmer so you don’t get cold feet since it acts as a good isolation layer.
Inside this heated double bottom is lots of storage space but also it houses all the important things like our 120 liters (30 gallons) of fresh water and 80 liters (20 gallons) of wastewater.
You can also find our two 95 ah lead acid batteries there today but we will change these to 200ah lifepo4 batteries in the future. We will also install two 150 watt solar panels on the top so that our batteries will charge when we are wild camping. Of course, the batteries will also charge while driving.
An important improvement we made was installing two LPG bottles. LPG bottles are very easy and safe to refill at a gas station. We installed an outside filling socket so you can fill up without opening the gas locker. If you travel in Europe LPG bottles are a must.
Our fridge/freezer runs on 230v (when connected), 12v (when driving), or gas (when standing still). It automatically switches over to the available power source. That means that when you start driving, it stops running on gas and starts working on 12v. When you stop driving it will automatically start on the gas again after 15 minutes. Or if you connect the RV to 230v, it will start running on electricity.
The heating system and warm water boiler are also running on gas. And of course, the cooking is on gas too.
So having two refillable bottles of LPG on board feels like a good investment for the days to come!
We also really like the ability to take our mountain bikes with us. We can fit them easily on a strong bike-rack on the back. This enables us to explore more places around.
We hope that we will be happy with our new RV and we look forward to exploring all the different places.
